Gerald Adams,
Co-founder and Chief Software Architect

Gerald Adams
Gerald is an engineer who creates technology networks to heighten the communication and coordination abilities of companies. In 1984 he co-founded VISION to capitalise on the opportunities provided by the new, human-scale personal computer and local area network technologies. Since that time, Gerald has helped VISION grow into a successful management and technology consulting firm, with over 300 staff working on projects in Europe and the Americas. His focus now is on how technology can create communities of highly coordinated suppliers in both financial services and health care.
Gerald believes - without exception - that the true test of innovation in technology is how successfully that technology disappears into our background, while simultaneously opening us up to new and un-anticipated possibilities. This principle guides all of his work.
From his first job in 1979 with Arthur Andersen - programming a Material Requirements Planning system - to his most recent projects, Gerald has been involved on-the-ground in most of the technology-led business revolutions of the past 20 and more years.
Along the way he helped design Ireland's first full-service telephone and online bank and brought that experience to VISION's international banking and insurance clients, helping them become leaders in this area. He worked closely with key IBM software labs on their first, substantial distributed object application, which pushed the practical limits of these technologies. As the Internet revolutionised the way we do business, Gerald led VISION's move into that new technology, with clients such as TheStreet.com, CitiBank and AOL Time Warner. Recently Gerald has worked extensively with leading global institutions to help them address the human and technological uncertainties introduced by the outsourcing upheaval.
Gerald graduated from Trinity College Dublin in 1979 with degrees in mathematics and engineering. For relaxation, Gerald reads history, paints and tries to get his latest home network addition to work.
Gerald was born and raised in Tullamore, a town in the centre of Ireland, but now lives in Dublin with his wife and two children. He divides his working life between the US and Europe.
